Sculptures

When I again returned to snow-work at a later stage, I was spellbound by the material. Perhaps the childhood memories of making snow castles, digging long caves and creating playful spaces contribute to the enjoyable feeling of working with snow. In any case, there is something quite special about the smells; the touch of the cold material; being in the outdoors; the physical work while at the same time being able to create something beautiful and exciting. I cannot escape the fact that I am a winter being.

Edward Much in snow and ice

This was a project during the Oslo Ski World Championship in 2011. All the sculptures were made in ‘Karl Johans Gate’, the main high street in Oslo. I contributed on ‘KYSSET’ (The Kiss), a sculpture made by Frode Holgersen, with  Elisabeth Kristensen also on the team.

Gellyfish

The Gellyfish is a pretty creature I have worked with using both ice and glass. Both materials work well in recreating this wonderful fellow.

Glorywhole

SNOW SCULPTURE HOVDEN 2010

This was my first solo sculpture, made to represent the ‘glory hole’, which is the name of the entrance to one of the furnaces used in glass blowing. The idea was to recreate the heat in the cold material, so as to accentuate the craft I chiefly do.  L. 2,5 m H/B foran 2 m

Arms

SNØSKULPTUR HOVDEN 2011

The inspiration here is the arms of the octopus. I chose to skew the shape a bit, and to blend in ice to emphasize exciting details: one of the arms are made of only ice. The three remaining arms are made of snow with details of ice all the way up.

Skulpturen er 6 m høy og D:/B:3×3 m
